If you are a coffee lover, then you either probably have a favorite roast or explore different coffee blends to find just the right one. We have all your favorite types and you have the option of going for a light, medium, dark, or extra dark coffee bean roast, based on your preferences.
It is important to choose high-quality coffee beans and the taste that you like. It all begins with the beans you choose and then depends on how you roast your coffee, transforming it into something that smells, tastes, and looks terrific!
That steaming cup of happiness is what keeps you going in the morning and it is also what helps you relax during the evenings. What type of coffee do you like light, medium, or dark roast?
Light Vs Medium Vs Dark Roast Coffee
Light Roast Coffee
A light roast gives you a caramel-ish color. The body of the coffee mixture is light and you can generally taste the flavor of the origin of the beans. That is a good thing, if you are particular about the coffee beans you use and want to maximize the taste of the specific beans you bought.
Medium Roast Coffee
A medium roast gives you the color of chocolate, a medium brown tone that is also full of aroma. So if you roast your beans to medium roast level, you get that irresistible coffee scent that tends to wake you up early in the morning or injects that little bit of euphoria in you throughout the day. Medium roast coffee don't offer a grainy taste but give you more of a blended flavor with less acidity.
These coffee blends would particularly soothe your taste buds and are excellent when medium roast. Pair your coffee off with your favorite dessert and sip away!
Medium Dark Roast Coffee
Before we move onto extra dark roasts, there is also a medium-dark roast which gives you a thicker blend than the light and regular medium roasts. It obviously gives you less of the original taste of the beans you have chosen and more of the roast flavor than the previous blends but is a favorite amongst many dark coffee drinkers. The coffee may adopt its own unique taste at this stage which may be a little sharp or shall we say strong compared to other blends.
Believe it or not, medium dark-roast coffee has less caffeine than lighter roasts. So if you thought this was going to give you that jerk in the morning, think again. But if you love the rich dark taste of a medium dark roast, these blends are perfect for you.
You may want to take a cup of medium dark roast coffee later in the evening or after dinner. The decreased caffeine level will not interfere in your sleeping process and will let you sleep peacefully. Want a cup before you fall asleep? Go for it!
Dark Roast Coffee
Last but not the least, the dark roast coffee often has a black color and a stingy burnt taste, which more or less eradicates the original taste of the beans. It has a very low caffeine level and there is likely to be a defined trace of oil in the cup surrounding the roast beans. However, some true coffee lovers love this dark roast flavor and simply can't get enough of it. The defined scent, the strong flavor, and the rich smooth taste is just irresistible to some.
The interesting thing is, dark roasts may be as thin as light roasts because the body of the drink gets thinner after the second crack. For a heavier blend, you may want to stick to medium roasts or medium dark roasts.
Now that you know how to roast your coffee to different levels and the basics of what the different roasts look and taste like, there are a few other things you need to know before you make a choice of the roasting level you want to choose.

More About Coffee Roasts
Light or medium roasts are best for breakfast because they have higher caffeine levels and if you don't properly wake up without an injection of caffeine in your system, you might want to stick to these early in your day. You may also need them for those all-nighters you need to pull!
Surprisingly, some misinformed people try darker blends to stay up during the night and end up wondering why they haven't been able to get rid of the drowsiness. It's because medium dark and dark roasts have less caffeine and are best for a warm relaxing drink later in the evening rather than when you need to work at a more energized level.
If you love that roasted aroma and want a rich flavor, a dark roast is what you are looking for but if you want to taste all of the citrusy, berry flavors your original coffee beans offer, keep it light. Then again, if you are a person who loves balance, medium roast is the way to go.
It literally depends from person to person and sometimes people tend to try different roasts during different times of the day. Check out our exquisite coffee beans collection here and take your pick!
